Will your staff claim the title Best of Show and leave Minneapolis with an award?
Student media staffs attending the convention can enter the Best of Show competition. There are two categories — General Excellence and Individual Awards.
In this category, the entire publication or website competes. The deadline is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.
Submitting an entry is easy. Just drop off your publication or your website URL at the Best of Show table at the registration desk. There is a $5 entry fee per entry payable at the convention when you submit your entry.
Newspaper: Enter a print copy of a regular edition published after Feb. 1, 2019.
Newspaper special edition: Enter a print copy of a special edition published after Feb. 1, 2019. A special editorial edition/section provides readers with an in-depth look into a relevant, timely and often complex topic. A special edition might include commemorative events, anniversaries, sports championships, retirements, installations of new college presidents; however, the best entries will focus on contemporary collegiate issues. Not eligible: Back-to-school, homecoming, orientation, welcome back editions, housing guides and “best of” publications. A center spread is not considered a special edition.
Magazine: Enter a print copy of your most recent edition published after Feb. 1, 2019.
Website: Provide the URL for your online product. Website must have been updated since Jan. 1, 2020.
For this category, submissions must be made online via the link below.
Each entry must be submitted separately. While the individuals responsible for the entry do not have to attend the convention, students from the staff do need to attend. All entries in this category must be published Feb. 1, 2019, or later.
There is a $5 entry fee per entry payable when checking in for the convention. There are seven categories:
1. News Story
2. Feature Story
3. Sports Story
